For the 6th No Bad Days release, the label pulls in a shining star from an unlikely place: the city of Bandung, Indonesia. Already loved at home for his work with disco edit gang Midnight Runners, here MUNIR strikes solo, offering up an extension of his synthcraft and taste for low-slung modern funk + boogie.
Kicking off the A side, 'All These Love' nails a similar winsome mood to poppy New Jack instrumentals of yore, with chord stabs and cowbell striding alongside the synthetic bassline. 'Feels Around You' expands the jazzy flourishes before it with soft-touch keyboard noodling gliding across the tropical track. It¡Çs well-suited as the first track of a balmy evening ahead, or the last notes to welcome a new morning.
On the flip, Life Is A Miracle¡Çs title cut adds a lightly jacking squelch to the vibe, with a zippy drum patterns carrying the groove along. 'Shimmering Miracle' brings a Streets of Rage robo-funk vibe, contrasting well with the beatless closer 'Music From The Backyard' – the closest No Bad Days has got so far to full Suzanne Ciani, with gentle waves of twinkling keyboards washing ashore.
MUNIR may reside half the world away from us, but Life Is A Miracle proves him a sonic kindred spirit to fellow easygoing NBD label mates. The EP overflows with positivity and charm, mirroring the lush surroundings and mellow living of his Javanese home.
