There are a wealth of Larry Levan compilations around at the moment, but not many on CD, and fewer still that bring together many of his best remixes and productions for the Island label and its offshoots Mango and 4th & Broadway, along with tracks released on Motown, Polydor, RCA and West End.
This 22 track double CD shows the genius of Levan's mixes, which were tailor-made for his own use when DJing at the Paradise Garage. His soulful, electronic, dubbed-out extended edits and reworks from the early 80s were some of the first and best tracks of the post-disco era. Included are gems such as Gwen Guthrie's 'Padlock', 'Peanut Butter' and 'Seventh Heaven', Dee Dee Bridgewater's 'Bad For Me', David Joseph's 'You Can't Hide (Your Love From Me)', Grace Jones' 'Feel Up', Central Line's 'Walking Into Sunshine' and Peech Boys' 'Don't Make Me Wait'.
