Carolyn Franklyn was younger sister of Aretha Franklin for whom she recorded backgrounds in addition to her own solo albums between 1969 and 1976. Carolyn is credited as being an inspiration for Aretha¡Çs classic ¡ÈAngel¡É on which she sings.
While a significant songwriter and background artist to both Aretha and other artists in 60s and 70s, she is highly regarded for both ¡ÈSunshine Holiday¡É and ¡ÈDeal With It¡É, neither of which have been released on 7¡É single before.
¡ÈSunshine Holiday¡É is highly sought after by both two-step and rare groove fans alike, more so now on 7¡É, while ¡ÈDeal With It¡É appeals by contrast to a funk base. Both songs are taken from her 1976 album ¡ÈIf You Want Me¡É, though recorded in 1973 hence an earthier feel (Carolyn comparable to Marva Whitney¡Çs styleon ¡ÈDeal With It¡É) yet with quality arrangements by Jimmy Radcliff
