Mad About has lined up a few solid reissues this month and Raposa Velha's self-titled album is one of them. It comes on heavyweight wax with a deluxe cardboard sleeve and the music within comes from 1981. That is when Brazilian group Velha mixed up avant jazz, free jazz, fusion, Latin and more on their one and only album. The six tracks were written by Zeca Freitas or Fred Dantas, with Jorge Brasil on drums and they take you on a worldly trip with minimalist moments of suspense and tension next to more winging jazz grooves, easy listening lullabies and plenty in between.
