Blueboy followed their first two 7"s for Sarah Records with this 8-track mini-album recorded at the White House in Weston-super-Mare. With the twin guitars of Paul Stewart and (former Field Mouse) Harvey Williams providing an intricate framework for Keith Girdler's warm yet fragile voice and intimate lyrics, Candy Bracelet, Sea Horses and Amoroso built on those two singles to create beautiful, subtly euphoric pop songs. Cloud Babies and Happiness and Smiles, meanwhile, are more hauntingly melancholic, Gemma Townley's cello a wistful partner to Paul's acoustic guitar in underpinning Keith's heart-breaking words ("Is it like this, is it happiness and smiles going on for a hundred thousand million miles? Or is it sadder than the world will ever know, loneliness and knowing that you can't go..."). Gemma also wrote one song, Fondette, her spoken vocal – almost in conversation with Paul's classical guitar – producing a chilling reminder of an era poisoned by the Tory Party's homophobic Clause 28 legislation: "This is a country where it can be a criminal offence to wink".
